The usage of plastic in our daily life is inevitable. Isn’t it? We use plastic in the form of either polythene bags, plastic mugs, silicon glue sticks etc. Do we ever emphasize on the negative side of plastic usage? If not, then it’s high time. The tiny molecules of plastic are consuming the natural beauty and wealth of the earth. It is our responsibility to understand this alarming situation and to find a remedy to it.
It is a common practice to discard off the waste plastic material. These waste like the others, reach a vast landfill and gets accumulated over the years. Unlike other biodegradable wastes, these do not get disintegrated by inclination (burning) or composting. Thereby, contributing to the destruction of the land. Plastic wastes not only refuse to decompose itself, but also hinders the decomposition of many other waste products which gets trapped in them.
The best way to tackle this situation is to practice recycling.
Now, what is recycling? Recycling is the process by which a waste product can be modified or moulded into another form for better use and productivity with respect to human beings.recycling helps in the following ways:
● It reduces pollution. The burning of plastic can lead to severe air pollution as the molecules involved in the formation of plastic do not get consumed easily. Thus, it requires complex mechanism to burn it up. Yet, the result is futile.
● Protects the environment. The recycling of plastic materials can cause a huge revolution for the good, in the environment.
● Reduces global warming. Global warming is one of the biggest threat that one has to endure. Accumulation of plastic and poor management of these wastes have triggered the undying menace of global warming. Hence, with recycling, we can ensure that the rate of global warming decreases considerably.
● Conservation of raw material. A large amount of resources and raw materials can be saved on the pretext of recycling.
● Provides jobs. With worldwide acceptance of the recycling techniques, there will be numerous recycling plants established. This will promote employment and thus, will result in the better standards of living for many families.
Therefore, we can see how bright the future seems with the introduction of recycling techniques. We as common people should adopt this method of waste disposal. Hereafter, let us segregate waste from our own houses i.e, decomposable wastes to be disposed off separately and non-degradable wastes such as plastic, to be given to scavengers for recycling.
The conservation of environment is our duty and responsibility both. So, let us start this initiative, and pass on this habit of ours to the generation to come.
