Kottayam: A court in Kerala’s Kottayam has extended the bail of Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar, accused of sexually assaulting a nun. Bishop Mulakkal was present in the additional sessions court during the hearing on November 30, He came to the court after praying at a nearby shrine dedicated to Saint Anthony.
The prelate was arrested on September 21, 2018, on rape charges and got bail on October 16 that year. The Kerala police have already filed a 2,000-page charge sheet in the court against him.
The trial is expected to start on January 6. The charge sheet names 83 witnesses, including the Cardinal of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Cardinal George Alencherry, three bishops, 11 priests and many nuns. hindustantimes.com
