The fathers of the diocese made a good use of their day off in the most sporting way ever, quite literally.
The first day of May being a holiday on account of Labour’s day would keep most men in their houses, relaxing and making the most out of their extended weekend leave. However, that is definitely not the case with the “Pithruvedi” of the Kalyan Diocese, who took part in the badminton doubles tournament organized for the Dads of the Diocese by the Pithruvedi at Kalidasa Hall, Mulund.
At 9.00 am sharp, Kalidasa badminton hall in Mulund opened it’s doors to the fathers dressed up in their sports shoes holding their rackets, all set and ready to play the game. The doubles badminton tournament welcomed fathers of all ages, and hence the game was divided into three categories- agewise- being fathers below 40, upto 55 and above 55 years of age. After the inauguration at 9.30, the tournament started at 9.45 am. Competing against each other, this inter parish pithruvedi badminton tournament went on till 5.00 pm in the evening.
The winners under each of the three categories were rewarded with trophies and cash prizes by Fr. Paul Olickal and Fr. Paul Kunduparambil . Competing through the several rounds and emerging as the winners of the badminton doubles tournament,2017, are:
