Kothamangalam: A young clergyman of the Kothamangalam diocese died after a boat capsized near Neriyamangalam. Fr. John, 33, student of St. Joseph’s College, Trichy, Muvattupuzha, was found dead in his driveway. The accident occurred at Periyar near Avolichal at around 6.30 pm. It was only a short distance from the shop that the wooden boat sank. Two other clergymen tried to escape but were futile. Another boat, which was near the river, immediately boarded the boat and landed on the shore. John could not save his life.
Rev. Fr. Antony Maliyakkal has been admitted to Dharmagiri Hospital. The body is kept at the Kothamangalam Dharmagiri Hospital mortuary. The funeral is expected to happen later. He is the son of a couple- Late retired Muvattupuzha Police Officer Jacob and Teacher Rosalie. Only brother: Sobin.
