The Commission of the Bishop’s Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) has denounced the European Union legislation to declare abortion as a ‘fundamental right.’ The commission stated that no state should be obliged to legalize or facilitate abortion.
The resolution undertaken by the European Parliament reaffirmed the protections given by the US Constitution to abortion. The resolution thus portrays that to assure the health of the pregnant woman, the right to abortion should be guaranteed. Contrary to this, the European Union Bishops have stressed that ‘the woman should not be put in contrast to the baby.’
The European Union announcement comes after the leaked draft decision of the US Supreme Court to end nationwide right to abortion.
