NEW DELHI: After controversy over the years of being cut off from the Republic Day celebration, Gandhi’s beloved ‘Abide with Me’ Christian song was included in the Beating the Retreat program. The military band has been performing this song at every Republic Day celebration since the 1950s. In his 150th birth anniversary, Narendra Modi has accused the government of excluding Republic Day celebrations. The song was slated for 2017 and 2018 at Beating Re Treat.
However, at the first Republic Day celebrations after Rajnath Singh became defense minister, Vande Mataram had been asked to replace the song. But in response to all sorts of concerns and concerns yesterday, the Army band sang the song “Abide with Me” at the Beating the Retreat ceremony yesterday. The song was also sung at the full dress rehearsal ahead of Republic Day.
