The annual feast of the Shrine Basilica, Our Lady of Good Health began with holy flag hoisting ceremony at Velankanni Shrine in Nagapattinam district on 29th August, 2018, evening. Thousands of pilgrims from across the country participated in the event. The flag of Ave Maria was hoisted by His Grace Archbishop of Thanjavur, Most Rev. M. Devadass Ambrose, amid the prayers offered by the devotees.
The Archbishop read out the holy prayers and the flag was hoisted after his blessings amidst ‘Ave Maria’ chorus raised by the pilgrims. Holy Mass was conducted in Tamil in the Shrine auditorium. District collector, S Sureshkumar, Basilica Rector Rev Fr A M A Prabhakar and parish priest and vice rector S A Susaimanickam also attended the event.
The annual feast of this Shrine is held every year starting with flag hoisting ceremony which takes place on August 29 and would conclude on September 8. Every night around 8pm , a car procession of Our Lady of Velankanni takes place which starts from the entrance of the main Shrine.
