His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo, SriLanka, has called Catholics in the country, to observe prayers and fasting for a week to fight against the increasing mosquito-borne dengue fever that has already killed many. His Lordship Cardinal Malcolm is also the president of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of SriLanka (CBCSL), urged the Catholics in the country to hold a Novena dedicated to Saint Sebastian, who is known protector against the plague.
As reported by Matters India, His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm stressed that “Let us storm our prayers and act of renunciation, so that Good Lord may bless our country, save it from epidemic and grant our people blessings and good health.”
SriLanka’s Ministry of Health reported that more than 87,600 suspected cases of the infection have been reported in 2017. The authorities are trying to find a solution .Maithripala Sirisena, President of SriLanka, has urged the public to co-operate with the officials trying to fight dengue.
