His Excellency Archbishop Jose H. Gomez of Los Angeles, in a homily delivered at two Los Angeles parishes, called on Catholics to work in order to overcome new forms of racism and nationalism and every ideology that denies the equality and the dignity of the human person. His Grace Archbishop Gomez also emphasized and called on the Catholics to become instruments of unity and healing.
As reported by Vatican radio, His Excellency Archbishop Gomez remarked that “We are seeing in our country a new kind of racism and nationalism rooted in fear and there is fear about what is happening in our society and there is fear in what is happening in our economy and now our country has become so angry and bitter, so divided- in so many different areas.”
His Grace Archbishop Gomez concluded his homily asking prayers for the nation and for the Church and also reminded the faithful that there is no place in the Church and in American society for racism and prejudice against people based on their race and nationality.
