A meeting of bishops from twenty-two Latin American and Caribbean dioceses were held to elect the head of Latin American bishop’s Council or CELAM on 15th May 2019. His grace Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, president of the Peruvian bishop’s conference was elected as the new president. The tenure of this post will end in the year 2023.
His grace Archbishop Cabrejos Miguel serves as the head of Archdiocese of Trujillo on the northern coast of Peru. The archbishop Carejos was born in the year 1948 in a rural province in the northern Peruvian region. He had his ordination in the year 1974. He has served as the bishop to the country’s armed forces. He was elected for the second time as President of the Peruvian bishop’s conference in the year 2018 after serving the first term from 2009 to 2012. Apart from founding the Catholic University of Trujillo, he also serves as the grand chancellor of the University. He also serves as the grand chancellor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima.
