The annual Kalyan Mathrusangam cultural competitions were held on 17th November 2019 at the Animation and Renewal Centre, Old Panvel. After fierce Forane level competitions, winner teams from each Forane participated in the much-awaited competitions.
This year the events included were Streetplay and Folk dance. It was sheer joy to watch the mothers of the diocese match steps to the beats of fast folk music which resembled the folk culture of different areas across the country.
The competitions began around 1 pm following the Holy Qurbana celebrated by Kalyan Mathrusangam Director Rev. Fr. Benny Thaninilkumthadathil. Neck to neck competitions of street play was judged by renowned resource persons chaired by Mr. Clinton Damian from Kerala and others including national award winner Mr. Sinoy. After 11 teams presented their street play based on the topic ‘Women in Society’, the judges marked the best one unanimously.
Simultaneously, the folk dance competition was held at the Marian Hall outside the main building. Eleven teams participated in folk dance. Following tight competitions, the crowd was pulled in for a public meeting in the presence of his excellency Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal, Rev. Fr. Jomon Kurishinkal (Asst. Director), Rev. Fr. Shaibu Paul Malethadathil (Director, ARC) and Rev. Fr. Bibil (Asst. Director, ARC). The judges too extended their words of wiadong and appreciation for the wonderfully talented mothers of the Diocese of Kalyan.
The street play compwtitin was won by Infant Jesus Church, Kharghar for the third time in a row followed by St. Kuriakose Church, Kandivili E, St. Antony’s Church, Bhosari, St. Thomas Church, Vartak Nagar and St. Thomas Church, Borivili respectively.
The Amasee Folk Dance competition was won by Immaculate Conception Church, Dombivli, St. Thomas Church, Mira Road, Amala Matha Church, Mulund, Infant Jesus Church, Kharghar and St. Thomas Church, Dapodi respectively.
With unexpected performances, the mother’s of the Diocese enthralled the audience with a never before seen zeal and enthusiasm.
