Today we are beginning the 50 days Lent. During this Lent, we have decided to keep the #CarbonFast2k17.
We hear a lot of talk about climate change and the devastating effects carbon pollution is having on the planet, from floods, to earthquakes, to melting icebergs. However all this seems like an impossible task for us to handle or even solve. However as a matter of fact, small steps that we take, and slight alterations in our way of living can go a long way in making the earth a better place for our future generations. Ashes remind us of carbon residue – during these fifty days, let us reflect on ways to reduce our personal and family carbon footprint.
Careful usage of electricity, unplugging your appliances when not in use and not putting it on stand-by, use public transport or carpool your way to work or even better – walk or cycle, carry your own bottle of water and avoid buying packaged bottles frequently (as it only adds to waste), buy locally available groceries and try to have a kitchen garden at least for basic veggies, buy energy efficient bulbs and other appliances. These are small steps that we can adopt, which if we all undertake collectively, can cause some radical change in the environment!
