Washington, DC – The National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Basilica in Washington DC, USA Police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a security guard at the temple and stabbed another security guard with a knife. Forty-eight-year-old Dorsey Lee Mack has been arrested. The injured security guard was taken to hospital. Violence took place in the parking lot of the church at 9:15 am yesterday. The condition of the injured security personnel is critical, but there is no danger to life, police said.
The attacker, who entered the parking area of his SUV vehicle, deliberately threw his car into the body of a security guard. According to police, the male employee, who came to the aid of an unidentified female employee, got out of the vehicle after she was trapped between her vehicle and another vehicle, then ran into the church and stabbed her with a knife several times. The attacker also struck his vehicle on other parked vehicles. International media reports say that before fleeing the scene, the vehicle struck the body of an aggressive female employee.
However, the Washington, DC Police Department said the incident was purely personal, had nothing to do with the shrine, and that the defendant had prior experience with the victims. Though the incident has nothing to do with the shrine, believers are concerned about the extraordinary violence that has taken place in the vicinity of the shrine. The accused has been charged with willful homicide.
