The United Nation organised the first World Environment day in 1974. Since then June 5 is celebrated as World Environment Day. This year 2019 has ‘Beat the air Pollution’ as the theme on World Environment day. China has taken up the theme to beat air pollution with a mask challenge event to be followed for the current year. The United Nation has urged to the people around the world to take up one action that will help reduce the air pollution. The task includes social media post with photographs wearing masks and then tagging organisations or individuals to join in the challenge.
The previous year 2018, India took up the drive of ‘Beat Plastic pollution’ on World Environment Day and organised an nationwide initiative to bring about the change in terms of usage of plastics. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted “Our Planet and Environment is something we all cherish greatly. Today on World Environment Day, we reiterate our commitment to ensure a cleaner planet.
Living in harmony with nature will lead to a better future.”
