On August 7th, 2017, Archdiocese of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh celebrated a major Hindu festival as a part of an initiative to foster harmony and fellowship among different religions in the state. His Grace Archbishop Leo Cornelio of Bhopal joined other religious leaders in celebrating Rakshabandhan (festival of siblings). Several school girls tied decorative threads on the wrist of His Excellency Archbishop Cornelio and other religious leaders, at the event organized by the archdiocese of Bhopal.
As reported by ucanews.com, His Grace Archbishop Cornelio remarked that “We are all sisters and brothers of one family, as we are sons and daughters of one God.” Further, His Excellency added, “The festival goes beyond any religion and country to love and trust each other.”
The Madhya Pradesh state government is led by the pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party and thus the initiative to encourage unity and peace among different religions, by the archdiocese of Bhopal is regarded as a courageous one by the faithful in the state.
