Kakkanad: Irinjalakuda Diocese Bishop Pauly Kannukadan has been elected chairman of Bengaluru-based NBCLC at a plenary meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Council of India. The National Biblical Catechetical Liturgical Center is a national center created in the light of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council to co-ordinate the evangelistic work of the three individual churches of the Indian Catholic Church. Bishop Pauly Kannukadan was selected at the CBCI Biennial Plenary Conference held on February 13-19 at St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bengaluru.
Three other national centers, which are under the auspices of the Catholic Bishops of India, were also elected. Caritas, the official social services body of the Catholic Bishops of India, was elected chairman of India by Bishop Sebastian Kallupura, the diocese of Baxter and the bishop of Patna. Archbishop George Anthony Swamy, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, has been re-elected chairman of the St. John National Academy of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, which is run by the Catholic Bishops of India. Bishop Jojo Anand, Diocese of Hazaribagh, has been elected chairman of the Society of Medical Education for Northern India.
