Kochi: Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, Chief Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church and Chairman of the Inter-Church Council, has written to the Chief Minister demanding permission to open all the churches in the state. The letter, he said, would “increase the psychological tension of the people by keeping Lockdown current and the consequences could not be prevented.” The letter says the believers are asking for the opening of the shrines with the equipment.
Therefore, a concession should be made to open the shrines among the concessions and perform the rituals with the means. For Christians, it is a great necessity nowadays to be allowed to perform worship services in churches with the participation of people not exceeding 50. They wish to perform their duties in accordance with the various directions prescribed by the Government. The letter states that believers are required to start worship services in churches with controlled participation and that is exactly what church leaders need. The letter also mentions the names of the Presidents of various Episcopal Churches for the Christian community in Kerala.
