The Archbishop Emeritus of Pamplona y Tudela passed away on the evening of 24 January. He had suffered a stroke a few days before. His Eminence Cardinal Fernando Aguilar’s body was buried in the Chapel of the Most Holy Sacrament in Malaga’s Cathedral of the Incarnation. Funeral rites were held in the Cathedral on Saturday at noon.
His Eminence Cardinal Fernando Sebastián Aguilar served as the Bishop of Leon in Spain from 1979 to 1983. He was the Archbishop of Pamplona y Tudela from 1993 until his retirement in 2007. His Holiness Pope Francis appointed him Cardinal-Priest of Sant’Angela Merici on 22 February 2014.
