At the age of 83, Cardinal Joachim Meisner, the former Archbishop of Cologne passes away while on a holiday in Bad Feussing, near the Australian border. He was ordained a priest in the year 1962. He became the Archbishop of Cologne in the year 1989 and served in the position till 2014. His Eminence Cardinal Joachim Meisner was considered as a strong voice in his terms in office and raised his comments over the government in the country which tried to remove crucifixes from the classrooms in schools.
Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki is the successor of Cardinal Joachim Meisner. After listening to the sad news of Cardinal Joachim’s demise, His Lordship Cardinal Rainer remarked that “ Cardinal Joachim was never afraid of death, he was always proclaiming it.”, as reported by Matters India.
His Eminence Cardinal Joachim is considered to have given the real shape of Faith in Germany and would be remembered for his courage of having proclaimed the Gospel even in harder times.
