His Lordship Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, is expected to visit Russia soon , out of a desire to promote peace both there and with the West and to strengthen relations with the Eastern Orthodox. In an interview published in Corriere della Sera, an Italian newspaper, His Eminence conveyed the significance of Peace around the world in growing conflicts between many countries. His Lordship is expected to hold meetings with the Russian President, Mr. Vladimir Putin and also with Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill as well as several other high-level authorities in the Russian Orthodox Church.
As reported by Catholic News Agency, His Lordship Cardinal Parolin remarked that “Conflicts throughout the world, particularly in areas such as the Middle East, Syria and Ukraine are constant objects of concern for the Holy See.” Further, His Eminence added, “The Holy See has always held a special interest for the vast eastern portion of Europe which has a role to play in the search for greater stability on the continent and greater unity, including relations between East and West.”
His Lordship Cardinal Parolin concluded by reminding that the relations between Orthodox and Catholics should be strengthened in order to maintain peace an contribute constructively to the resolution of the complex problems which afflict and challenge humanity.
