Vatican City / Manila: Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines as head of the Vatican Council for the Evangelization. Taggill has been appointed as the successor to Cardinal Fernando Feloni, who currently heads the presidency. In the wake of the new appointment, he will have to vacate the Manila Diocese he has held for the past eight years. He was promoted to Archbishop of Manila in December 2011. The following year, Pope Benedict XVI elevated him to the rank of Cardinal.
Born in 1957 in the capital city of Manila, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1982. Luis Antonio Tagle was also a member of the International Theological Commission from 1997 to 2002. Since 2015, he has also served as president of Caritas International, a charitable organization for the Catholic Church. The missionary group coordinates the missionary work of the Catholic Church.
