Caritas workers are facilitating needful bits of help and aids to the victims of flood in mountain areas; northwestern provinces of Vietnam by avoiding communist government’s restriction. Victims badly need financial assistance to rebuild their destroyed houses and to buy basic foods and seeds to cultivate crops and children also require books and clothes. Flooding in the mountain areas were caused by heavy rains from August 1-6, 2017. The flood claimed 26 dead and 15 people remain still missing.
As reported by ucanindia.in, His Excellency Bishop Joseph Nguyen Van Yen, vice-president of Caritas Vietnam, remarked that “Local Catholics have not been recognized by government authorities, so we try to pay quick, quiet visits to victims, console them and give them money so that they can deal with their situation.”
As per the information received from the government, 230 houses, 340 hectares of crops and 145 irrigation systems are destroyed due to the flood which has left the whole province under serious difficulties.
