The Catholic Church groups are struggling to help the people who are affected by heavy rains and floods in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, which have killed at least 150 people and displaced more than ten thousand people. Church groups are highly active in supporting the relief operation team in order to help the affected people. Causalities are mounting up as the torrential rain continues in these states.
As reported by ucanews.com, Fr. Avinash Parmar of Ahmadabad Diocese based in Gujarat remarked that “The situation is very bad and the flood water coming from northern part of the state and from neighboring Rajasthan has worsened the situation.” Further he added, “ We are providing food and medical assistance and the church volunteers are also collaborating with the government in rescue and relief operations.” Fr. Jerish Anthony, the social work director of Ajmer Diocese in Rajasthan highlighted that “Hundreds of houses are under water in the state’s drought-prone district of Barmer.”, as reported by ucanews.com.
According to the media reports, at least 75,000 people are living in various shelters in flood-affected areas of Rajasthan.
