On 2nd July 2017, the Catholic Churches in Madhya Pradesh linked with the state for tree-plantation drive, an initiative undertaken by the government of the state to plant millions of tree saplings to control the worsening climatic changes and dedicated the day to getting closer to the nature. The tree plantation drive longed 12hours claiming that 60million tree saplings were planted on the day.
As reported by ucanindia.in, a catholic news website, Bishop Gerald Almeida of Jabalpur said , “ It was a great move in the direction of protecting the environment, conserving water and promoting greenery, there-by arresting the ill-effects of climate change. ” All the nine diocese in the state participated in the drive which was held on the banks of river Narmada. As per the diocesan circular in each parish, each Catholic family was asked to plant at least 5 saplings on their land.
His Excellency, Bishop Almeida reminded the faithful and the government to promote such drives so that the state could regain the greenery which has been lost and asked the faithful to maintain all the natural resources without unwanted usage.
