A 71-year old Mexican Catholic Priest, Fr. Luis Lopez Villa, the parish priest of San Isidro Labrador, in Mexico was found shackled and stabbed to death in his room on 5th July 2017. The primary Police report says that the suspect broke into the church and then to the room of the Priest making enough noise and this alarmed the neighbors to have a check in the priest’s room where they witnessed the dead priest bound and stabbed to death.
The report given by Catholic News Agency says that Fr.Villa is the 18th priest in Mexico to be murdered in the last 6years. The increasing rates of kidnap and missing cases of priests in the country has become a growing concern for the Catholic Churches in Mexico. As reported by the Catholic news agency , Cardinal Norberto Rivera, Archbishop of Mexico remarked his condolences for Fr.Luis Lopez Villa and has also asked the Police that, “Please ensure this heinous crime does not go unpunished.”
The suspects in the case have not yet been identified. The parishioners offered a prayer in solidarity along with other bishops of the country in the memory of Fr.Luis Lopez Villa.
