Catholic lay people in the Philippines attach themselves with Muslim communities in the country to foster peaceful environment. The volunteers are serving as teachers in Muslim Communities in Mindanao, the second largest Island in the Philippines and believes that inter-cultural dialogues could bring up peace in the country. This system is initiated by the Catholic Educational Association of Philippines and implemented by the Jesuit- run Ateneo de Davao.
As reported by ucanews.com, Gracielle Deanne Tubera, the coordinator of the system said, “The volunteers live with the host family during the entire year and engage in inter-religious dialogue with Bangsamoro communities.” Further, she added, “Respect and cooperation between and among Islamic and Catholic schools are necessary for peace.
The main aim of this system of embedding is to improve the quality of education in the Bangsamoro region through the creation of a new environment of shared learning.
