Reichjovik, Iceland: In 1994, Catholics in Iceland and Lutheran Major ranged to a mere 1% of European Catholics. Presently, as per the records compiled in October 2019, the percentage has increased to 4%. The increase is stipulated to have happened due to surging immigrants from Poland.
Over 40% of the immigrants in Iceland belong to Poland. The greatest increase in the number of people attending the Holy Qurbana is being witnessed in the Reichjovik’s Basilica named after Christ the King. The Iceland media also suggest that the number has increased to an extent that it becomes difficult to enter the Basilica doe to the crowd.
However, the number of Lutheran Major Christian faithful has decreased considerably. In the early 1990s, 90% of Christians in Iceland belonged to the Lutheran Major clan, but the percentage has decreased to 64% in today’s time.
