Church leaders in Vietnam are preparing to help the people affected by a dangerous tropical storm that hit the country’s central provinces on September 15, 2017. His Excellency Auxiliary Bishop Peter Nguyen Van Vien of Vinh and some other priests visited three parishes in Quang Binh Provinces on September 16 and consoled those suffering from the typhoon and offered prayers for them. His Grace Bishop Peter promised that he would call on Caritas Vietnam to assist those affected by typhoon Doksuri.
As reported by ucanews.com, Fr. Peter Than Van Chinh, pastor of Lien Hoa parish remarked that “Around 200 households are submerged in flood water and many of the homeless occupants are staying in the local church for safety.” Further, he added, “We are cleaning and repairing houses and we have no electricity and lack medicines, drinking water and food.”
Typhoon Doksuri hit six provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue, killing eight people and injuring just as many in a disaster that has also left tens of thousands homeless and damaged 126,000 houses.
