The 10th National Youth Convention for the year 2017, started at St Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore. Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore hosted the event with lightning of lamp along with Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza and the other jury. The theme for this year NYC is “Touched by Jesus, Walking His Way.” and to experience Jesus’s holy touch more than 2300 energetic, enthusiastic and vibrant youths from across the country have gathered here.
NYC 2017 was inaugurated with a Holy Mass and followed by Flag hoisting ceremony to mark to event open. This was a moment for all the regional presidents to come in their regional costumes. All the dignitaries including our national youth president gave a welcoming speech, boosting our energy and spirit. From all the welcoming speeches heard – one theme was very common, the youth are the future of our country and we shall set an example to all others.
The day concluded with a colourful cultural programme from the host diocese, Manglore. It included dances, action plays and so on. Since each day is concluded with cultural programme, many regions are having their last minute practice for performances. The first day was an occasion for many to meet their friends, whom they met in the last Youth Conventions.
