Pope Francis invites each one to pay attention to one of the core values of Christianity: Comfort the Afflicted. He invites each one of us to join in the salvific mission by participating in the prayer intention for February which is to “Comfort for the Afflicted”. To help all those who are afflicted especially the poor, refugees, and marginalized, so that they may find welcome and comfort in our communities.
In a video message, the Pope remarks that while the world around us is developing and its economy growing, “they abandon a part of themselves to marginal settlements on the periphery” which results in great sections of the population being excluded and marginalized: without a job, without options and without a way out. He urges to not abandon them and to join in prayer for those who are suffering.
The scripture teaches us that it’s always more blessed to give than to receive. Christians should always give to the homeless and needy. God loves a cheerful giver. If you were in need wouldn’t you want someone to help you? Instead of judging, ask yourself that question whenever you see the needy. Always remember that those in need are Jesus in disguise.
Randy Alcorn once said that“The more you give, the more comes back to you, because God is the greatest giver in the universe, and He won’t let you out give Him. Go ahead and try. See what happens.” We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone. So, let’s join hands to make this world a better place.
