MANILA: The Apostolic Administrator of the Manila Archdiocese of the Philippines, Mon. Broderick Pabillo, says the reconciliation sacrament requires mutual communication between the repentant and the confessor.  The bishop is warning about the possible malpractice of the Holy Spirit and prayer services being used by believers on the Internet. He said that the clergy could use the internet to provide spiritual advice and that the confession was forbidden and that a person who was in complete remorse would be cured without the sacrament.

The statement issued by the Archdiocese of Manila last Wednesday included the announcement of the banning of the online reconciliation sacrament, along with suggestions on how to restart worship with public participation. The clergy and the confessors are required to wear a mask to reorganize the sanctuary to maintain social distance.

If this is not possible, the statement states, “If it is not possible, proceed outside the space of one meter and follow the general procedure.” With the appointment of Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle as head of the diocese for evangelism, the bishop of Manila has been temporarily assumed the leadership position.
