Armed civilians opened fire against a large group of people who were protesting against the Venezuela regime and were participating in a symbolic referendum in Caracas, Venezuela. The continuous firing by the armed civilians led the people to take refuge inside Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church while one person died from gunshot wounds and many others were injured. The protest was mainly conducted to express their hatred towards the leadership of Nicolas Maduro, who has been the President of Venezuela.
As reported by Catholic News Agency, Fr. Erick Tovar, pastor of Our Lady of Carmel Church, stressed that “We had gotten all people out of the church and these are the final abuses of the regime.” Holy Father Pope Francis reminded the Church in Venezuela to have Faith and also remarked that He is keeping the people in Venezuela in his prayers.
The government of Venezuela is known to be the most corrupt and violent in the Latin America and has become fiercer since the leadership of Nicolas Maduro.
