Police in Madhya Pradesh confined a Catholic nun and four tribal girls who were accompanying her in the train. A complaint was filed against the nun allegedly saying that the nun was taking the tribal women to be converted to Christianity, an act that is restricted under the state law. The state government is run by the pro-Hindu political party and thus such incidents portray that the limitations drawn to Christianity are growing higher in the state.
As reported by ucanindia.in , S.R.Bhagri , the local police officer In Madhya Pradesh said about the detainment that, “ The nun and other tribal women were detained following complaints filed by the activists of Bajrang Dal, a hard line Hindu group openly opposed to Christian missionary work.”
An estimated number of around 80 such incidents have taken place in the state alone wherein the faithful Christians were detained. As reported by ucanindia.in, Daniel John, a member of the All India Catholic Union stressed that “We are frightened, we cannot walk freely, we cannot travel freely, we cannot speak our faith freely.”
