Kabul: Afghanistan’s only Catholic mosque has been temporarily shut down. The Barnaby clergyman, Fr. Giovanni Scales said. Over the past few weeks, there has been a decline in the number of believers attending even the Sunday Mass. He added that many people had returned from the country and were sacrificed on the 23rd of March with public participation.
The uncertainty over the Holy Week continues. But no matter how bad the situation may be, he will personally sacrifice in those days, he said. Afghanistan ranks second in the world for the persecution of Christians. Many of the mission communities have backed off because of the violence in the country. The remaining missionary communities in Afghanistan are the Missionaries of Charity founded by St. Mother Teresa and the Kabul Pro-Bambini Saints.
