Vatican City: Pope Francis has prayed for people suffering from food shortages in the world and for those who may be suffering from food shortages in the coming days due to the coronavirus. In a message before the Divine Sacrifice offered at Santa Marta, the Papal abode on March 28, the pope commemorates those who are struggling to find food. Explaining that one of the consequences of the current viral outbreak is food shortages, the pope said that because of the absence of regular jobs and the inability to work, people who go hungry for many other reasons can now be found in our surroundings.
In his message, the Pope commended the clergy and saints who were risking their own lives and offering food and sacraments to the poor. At the same time, the pope has criticized some clergy and saints for refusing to provide food and other necessities to the poor in the current situation. They lost the spirit of Christ, who lived with the lower classes of society.
It should not be the sole responsibility of the government to provide food to the poor. The Pope also cited examples of clergy and other helpers who were offered to the believers in times of crisis. The priest, who was ministering in a mountain village, described the pope as an example of how he went through the thick snow to bless people in the Eucharist. The pope added that the priest did not care for the heavy snow and that the only purpose of the priest was to bring Jesus to the believers.
