New Delhi: The Lok Sabha has passed the abortion amendment bill despite the protests by Catholic and prolife organizations. Health Minister Harshavardhan introduced the Medical Termination Pregnancy (Amendment) 2020 bill, which raised the abortion period from 20 weeks to 24 weeks. The House passed the House with a voice vote. Only Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose spoke against the bill.
The bill would also keep the information of the abortionist confidential. The bill says the information could be sentenced to up to a year in prison. More than 13,000 people have signed an online petition that began with the ‘Prophet Voice’ against the law allowing the unborn child to be torn. The memorandum was handed over to the authorities by the KCBC Prolife Committee with strong protest and concern. But the bill was ignored by the Lok Sabha.
