To mark the third anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on September 01,2017, a northern diocese in Vietnam has planned to clean their surroundings in order to do their bit for the environment. The Diocese includes coastlines affected by a toxic waste pollution spill in April, 2016 that was caused by a Taiwanese-built steel plant in Ha Tinh Province, a unit of Formosa plastics.

As reported by ucanindia.in, Fr. Anthony Nguyen, head of the Vinh Diocese Committee for Justice and Peace remarked that “All the parishes in Vinh Diocese will organize Eucharistic Adoration to pray for those who have devoted themselves to clean up the environment and also for the leaders of the country to issue proper policies to respect Creation and mankind to love their surroundings.”

Around 500,000 local Catholics are invited by the Diocese to pray for environmental protection and to clean up their surroundings by collecting and disposing of garbage, on September 3,2017.
