On 23rd April, exactly a week after Easter, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, witnessed a huge turnout of around 300 people for the Divine Mercy Sunday Service. The service was conducted by Fr. Joshua Liew who later blessed the church with an original copy of the Divine Mercy.

The Feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated because of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska. St. Faustina was canonized in the year 2000 and became the ‘first saint of the millennium’. Through her first, she revealed the message of God’s Divine Mercy. The service was first acknowledged by St. John Paul II who spoke about it in his Dives in Misericordia’s (Rich in Mercy). For the Feast, devotees had begun preparation from the Good Friday on 14th April. The service entails; the Novena which has begun on Good Friday and went on till Easter, the Hour of Mercy and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The Chaplet is a prayer given to St. Faustina by our Lord to be said at three o’clock commemorating Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

The service came to an end and was filled by a meal that the devotees attended.
