It’s a day of happiness and Pride for the Syro Malabar Catholics in Canada. The migrants who traveled across the sea with aims and dreams since the 1960s are getting their dreams fulfilled. Syro Malabar church is having its new Diocese in Canada. The Eparchy of Mississauga will be inaugurated on 25th May 2019.
His Excellency Bishop Jose Kalluvelil is appointed as the First Bishop of Mississauga. Born on 15th Nov 1955, Bishop Jose had his ordination on 18th Dec 1984 and served as the Parish priest for the Diocese of Palghat He has earlier served as the Apostolic Vicar of the Exarchate and Titular Bishop of Tabalta when Pope Francis had erected an Apostolic Exarchate for Canadian Catholic Community on 6th August 2015.
The successive three years found the dedication and zeal in the various devotional and cultural activities of the Canadian Catholics which finally bore fruit and the exarchate was raised to the status of Diocese. The Diocese of Mississauga currently comprises of 20000 Syro Malabar Catholics,12 parishes and 23 priests.
