The longest serving Catholic Newspaper in India, “The Examiner” turned 168years in July. It was founded as the Bombay Diocesan Bulletin; the news weekly has been an authentic source for the Catholic community though the Christian community is only 3.27 of the population in the city. The Examiner mainly focused on providing the readers with accurate information regarding the Christian community by highlighting the Catholic activities through which “The Examiner” built up a goodwill among the people for its authenticity.
As reported by Matters India, Fr. Anthony Charanghat, editor of “The Examiner” conveyed that, “Catholics need their own voice to engage in the society and be heard in the public, but first and foremost they need a voice to inform Catholics themselves, helping them to see reality through Catholic eyes.” Further, the priest added, “The Examiner for over a century has tried to play a vital role of Christian communication in our local churches.”
The Examiner has always maintained a loyalty in its contents and thus Fr. Anthony concluded by observing that, “To inform, to form and to inspire should be a part of the DNA of any Catholic Media Organization.”
