The annual Eucharistic procession of the Shillong Archdiocese was held on 12 November 2017 through the two kilometers or so route in the city of Shillong. Thousands of faithful from the Parishes of the Archdiocese took part in it. Also, a sizeable number of faithful from the two dioceses of Nongtoiñ and Jowai were present on the occasion.
The procession started from the Cathedral gate and concluded at the Calvary ground below the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians. The faithful chanted prayers and sang hymns as they walked along devoutly professing their faith in Jesus and venerating His real presence in the Holy Eucharist which was placed on a mobile altar. A solemn Benediction presided over by Most Rev. Dominic Jala SDB DD, Shillong Archbishop concluded the Procession.
Earlier, the day started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist celebrated by the Archbishop and concelebrated by hosts of Priests. In his homily, the Prelate, spoke on the theme of the day, “The Earth, our common Home”.
Shillong is the capital of the state of Meghalaya in the Northeast of India. The seed of Catholic faith was sowed in this soil way back in 1890.
