Kalpetta: Superior’s statement cited in the media that the media coverage of Wayanad Makiyadu Benedictine monk Deepa Joseph (Bindu Joseph Kallarakal) is false. Superior Sister Treeza Thomas of Makiyad Scholastica Convent has responded to the allegations in the wake of disturbing propaganda. Deepa’s parents have accused the Math authorities of molesting her daughter who was working in England. However, Sister Trisa Thomas replies that there is no basis for the allegation.

Below is the full description of the explanation given by the monastic community

Deepa Joseph (Bindu), who joined the Scholastica Convent of Makiyadu on 1 July 1998, made her first oath in the monastery in Bangalore on March 31, 2002, and made the solemn promise in England on 10 November 2007. Returning to India in June 2008, Deepa returned to England in 2008, on her own request. In 2011, she asked Mother General to leave the monastery for a year and give her an opportunity to rethink the monastic life.

In August 2012, after a year of abstinence from the monastic life, Deepa requested the Mother General to grant her a complete release from the monastic life. Even after leaving the monastic life, Deepa worked, stayed and ate at the same monastery where she was a member from 2012 to 2017. Even when the monks were ready to help in different ways when she was asked to leave in 2017, Deepa herself refused.

In the current situation, the allegations leveled by Deepa’s family against the monastic community are baseless. I would like to clarify the truth of the news that is spreading through the newspaper and social media:

1. Deepa returned to England after making her promise to return to the Makiyad monastery in Wayanad on her own volition and request. Deepa wrote to the Mother General of the monastic community in England on July 18, 2008: “I want to come back to England. I want to work with residents. Deepa is taken to England again with the seriousness of these lines in the letter. That does not mean that her life was miserable. She wrote in the same letter to Makiad: “If I can stay here I cannot.” I am a worry to my family now. For They Think I Am Not Alright In The Convent. They want me to change from Makiyyad because her family thinks she is not happy in the monastery. It is amazing that the family is still raising the same allegations. They want her to change from McKiad because her family thinks she is not happy with Math. It is amazing that the family is still raising the same allegations. They want her to change from McKiad because her family thinks she is not happy with Math. It is amazing that the family is still raising the same allegations.

2. Deepa was taking her medication for depression with a consultation with specialist doctors in England. Deepa knew exactly why she needed her medication and what her condition was. However, when she returned to Makiad in 2008, the family decided not to let her take the drug and stopped her from taking it. In a letter to Mother General, Deepa states that the Superior Sister of Makiyad convent, as demanded by her family, is adversely affected by the stoppage of medication: “They (family) came to the convent and discussed the matter with Sr. They thought it was not for me to take tabs.

3. The allegation of expulsion from the Congregation is baseless. On her return to England in 2008, she asked for a year’s time to review her ascetic life. In a letter to the General of the Monastery on August 2, 2012, after a year’s deliberations, Deepa himself had demanded his release from the ascetic community: “I would like to thank you all. May I ask you to give me the dispensation of my vows, as a religious sister. ”

At the request of the letter, according to the law of the Monastic Society, Clifton gave the letter to Deepak, exempting herself from her vows. “When the petitioner has communicated to the layperson, she is notified when it is rejected. ” This letter was accepted. For this reason, the allegation of Deepa being expelled from the convent is false.

4. The propaganda that Deepa is now living alone in England in house arrest is completely false. After leaving the monastery with permission from the convent, Deepa stayed in her flat for five years and worked in a company. Then in 2017, the compulsion was moving from there. Deepa went to her own flat for a change. Even then, the monastic community had offered a job offer elsewhere. But Deepa refused all help and moved to her flat. Sisters would go there while they were looking for help, but Deepa herself discouraged such visits.

Later, when she received complaints from Deepa’s house, which were now being circulated in the media, Deepa’s reply was that she was happy and did not need any help. The allegations that Deepa is in house detention and living in poverty are false. Deepa is now living in her own flat and accepting government benefits in England. It is always possible for any person to call and talk to her on the phone.

5. Deepa has been home from England twice since leaving the monastery. She is constantly in touch with her family. In addition, Deepa’s elder brother Viju has come to England to understand the life and circumstances of Deepa. Deepa has learned at home that her life has changed.

Despite these facts, the rumors that the girl has been abducted, raped, tortured and mentally ill are widely condemned. All of the above are facts that are kept as records from time to time.

None of those evidences lie. The monastic community in Wayanad has to contend with a person who has settled in England by accepting citizenship in England and leaving the monastic community of his own choice. Deepa’s younger brother ad sent text messages and voice messages and letters to Sisters and superiors of the Makiad Scholastica Convent via WhatsApp in a very wrongful language.

It was only when five years of Deepa’s asceticism sends her home that she had no objection to her life. It also makes the motives of the offenders clear.
In addition, the financial motive behind this has been revealed after negotiations with the monastic community that a sum of Rs 5 crore has been demanded. Therefore, the parties declare that they must unconditionally withdraw from such unethical and baseless propaganda.
