Kochi: The inauguration of the Family Counseling Center for deaf and dumb couples at the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) level was held at the Pastoral Orientation Centre, Palarivattom. KCBC Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Varghese Vallikkadu inaugurated the new project. It is headed by the KCBC Family Commission. It is a forum for physically challenged young people and families to share their expectations of their partner.
The inaugural ceremony was presided by dignitaries including Fr. Biju, Fr. Prayesh, Sister Abhay, Sister Victoria, Stalin Thomas, K.C. Isaac. KCBC Family Commission Secretary Fr. Faber said the service would be provided by experienced counselors in sign language such as Kunjumol and Rani Thomas. Paul Madassery said, Marriage preparation course for deaf and dumb young girls is going on at POC. More than forty deaf and dumb youth preparing for marriages from different parts of Kerala are participating in the course.
Classes intend to focus on family life, such as family relationships, sex, and communication, conducted by specially trained specialists in sign language. All communities can participate. It also provides the opportunity to register with the Matrimonial Service for Deaf and Dumb Youths.
