On 3rd July 2017, Pope Francis, while addressing the staffs and employees of the Rome based United Nations Food Agency, assembled together for their 40th General Conference, expressed his intense concern towards the people who starves and are under poverty across the globe. His holiness reminded the people that the primary mission of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) is to help eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition across the globe.
At the opening of the Conference, the Director – General of FAO, Jose Graziano Da Silva conveyed that the number of the hungry people in the world has increased since the year 2015. Further, he added that almost 60 percent of the people suffering from poverty lives in the conflict based countries and also in the countries facing climatic challenges. As reported by the official Vatican network, Pope Francis highlighted that “It depends on the duty of the entire human family to provide practical assistance to those in need and there is an urgent need for solidarity to be the criterion inspiring all forms of cooperation in international relations.”
His Holiness concluded the conference by making a symbolic contribution to the FAO programme that will be providing seeds to rural families in conflict and drought affected areas on October 16th, World Food Day and promised his presence on the day.
