Fr. Biju Muttutukunnel was appointed as the Vice Procurator of the Syro Malabar Church in Rome, by Cardinal Mar George Alencherry. The Procurator is the person appointed to facilitate official transactions between the Major Archbishop and the Vatican’s various offices. Since 2011, Mar Stephen Chirapanathil has served as the Prosecutor.
In 2007, Rev. Fr. Biju served as Assistant Vicar in the parishes of Alakkodu, Patannakkadu, and Kudiyanmalai in the Archdiocese of Thalassery, and as a Vocational Promoter at the Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese. He was appointed Assistant Vicar of the Syro-Malabar church in Rome in 2012. He also served as the National Coordinator of the Syromalabar Church of Italy and Administrator of the Syromalabar Procura. He holds a Master’s degree in Oriental Law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome and a doctorate in ecclesiastical law from the Lateran University. The new appointment is effective June 23, 2020.
