Rev. Dr Irudaya Raj Santhanam (60) from the Archdiocese of Calcutta was appointed as the Executive Secretary for the CCBI Commission for Canon Law and Legislative Texts. The appointment was made by the 79 Executive Committee of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) held on 1 May, 2018 at Bangalore.
Fr Irudaya Raj is presently the dean of theology at Morning Star Regional Seminary, Barrackpore, Calcutta. He is also serving the Archdiocese of Calcutta as Director of the formation of the major seminarians. He was the Secretary to the Canon Law Society of India from 2013 to 2015 and Deputy Secretary of Bengal Regional Bishops’ Council from 2009 to 2015. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Calcutta on 7 Mary, 1989.
Fr. Irudaya Raj holds Licentiate in Canon Law from St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore, Doctorate in Canon Law from Urban Pontifical University, Rome and Diploma in Jurisprudence from Rome. He served Calcutta Archdiocese as the assistant Parish Priest, at Sacred Heart Church, Burdwan, associate Judicial Vicar, Defender of Bond in the Inter-diocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Calcutta, Director of Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, Diocesan Director of Commission for Evangelization, Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Church, Barrackpore, Calcutta and Regional Secretary of Commission for Canon Law and Legislative Texts and Regional PRO and Spokesperson for Bengal Regional Bishops’ Council.
