Holy Father Pope Francis appointed an Indian priest, Fr. Tomi Thomas as a member of Vatican’s bioethics advisory board.  Three of the new members are from Asia, one from India and other two are from Japan. Pope Francis also appointed five significant officials of the old Pontifical Academy as honorary members.  Fr. Tomi Thomas served as director general of Catholic Health Association of India(CHAI)  from 2011 to 2016.  Carl A Anderson, the Supreme Knight of Knights in Columbus has also been appointed as a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

As reported by the Catholic News Agency, Carl Anderson observed that, “ I am honored to have been appointed  to the Pontifical Academy for Life by Pope Francis” Further he continued, “The issue of  the sanctity of life has been a priority for the Knight of Columbus, and for me personally.”

The Pontifical Academy for Life was founded by Pope Paul II for the promotion and defense of human life, especially regarding bioethics as it regards Christian morality.
