The Archdiocese of Goa has urged the government to form a special investigation team to find out the recent desecration of 50 odd crosses and gravestones in the state. The team members for the council for Social Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and the Centre of Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS) submitted a 24 page report stating the laziness and improper ways adopted by the police team that was supported and influenced politically. The police had arrested a 54-year old man named Francis Pereira claiming him as the person responsible for the desecrations in the state.
As reported by ucanindia.in, CSSS Director Irfan Engineer stressed that “It is difficult to believe that Pereira is the culprit or the only culprit and the team finds it impossible for a single man of his stature to demolish so many gravestones made of stone and there is no medical certificates to prove that Pereira was not his senses.
The increasing rates of desecrations in the state have now become a great threat and a serious concern not only for Christians but for everyone who wants to live secular, without any religious conflicts.
