Cairo: Catholic bishops have revealed that the situation of Christians in Egypt, despite decades of religious persecution, has improved. Kyrillos William Assyutt, the Coptic Catholic Bishop, shared his hopes for the Christians in Egypt while speaking to the Catholic charity organization called Aid to the Church in Need (ACN). The Bishop of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, said that he was the president of the entire nation, and that he had a good attitude toward Christians and thanked God for the betterment of the situation.
Since 1952, there has been a tendency to view Christians as second-class citizens. Some changes have just begun. Over the years, the complexity of temple construction has been simplified. No need to wait years for a construction permit now.
At the same time, the bishop says radical Islamism is still a threat. Attacks by Islamic extremists have been going on from time to time. They want to make it a nightmare for Egypt and the Christians. Their mission includes not only Christians but also the government. Their goal is to create the Islamic State. The people of Egypt are united and their dream will not be realized, he added. Bishop Kyrillos concluded his interview by thanking the ACN for its contributions and assistance to keep Christians in their home countries.
