Msgr. Eugene Pereira, Latin Archdiocese Vicar General, while addressing the KMVS students legislative march (Kerala Matsyamekhala Vidyarthi Samithi), conveyed that the government should provide proper educational facilities to the students from fishery sector. Msgr. Eugene highlighted his support to the students of KMVS who were marching against the government’s ignorance regarding Ockhi victims package that is to be given to the students coming from fishery sector background.
As reported by catholicvox.com, Msgr. Eugene remarked that “More than 1000 schools in the state were affiliated to the international level but the coastal schools were not there in that list. The schools near the coasts are under corporate management and thus were ignored by the government and this has taken away good opportunities for education from the students of this background.” Further, the Vicar General added, “The fishery schools in the state should be modified and special recruitments for the students from coastal areas and fishery sectors should be arranged.”
Vicar General Msgr. Eugene also emphasized that the march of the students and their protest is just a beginning of the fight to get justice for the underprivileged students.
